The 3rd Annual "Christmas Angel's Handout" Date is Set!

Okay Christmas Angels,

The 2012 Date for The 3rd Annual Christmas Angels Handout is officially set for Thursday, December 20th in downtown San Diego (same date as last year.)

We are very proud to announce that this year we are partnering with "Art Takes a Village" a local non-profit in San Diego. For those of you that aren't familiar, Art Takes a Village is a public charity organization that my mom Jane Pollock started in 2007. Their mission is to provide therapeutic art programs in areas lacking the ability and or funding. They work with at risk youth and adults as well as seniors and children in Oregon with our Oregon branch. They partner with other charitable outreach programs and non-profits they believe in as well. With this kind of support from Art Takes a Village we are able to offer your contributions this year as a tax write off which is incredible news for us! I have provided ATV's Tax-ID number for tax purposes below and it can also be found on their website, as well as more information on their non-profit.

So, just like in previous years we need volunteers and lots of them! No matter what your ability may be you can help in some way. Whether it is monetarily, donating clothing or simply your time, everyone has something to offer.

Same as the previous years, we need: Monetary donators, Clothing donators, Bakers, Wrappers, Drivers, Runners, Chaperones and Donation collectors.

Please read in detail what each of these positions entail:

Monetary donators- Are individuals that are donating money (which is tax deductible) as a charitable contribution to a 501 (c) 3 at the end of the year. You can either donate through our pay-pal account on this blog (just click our Pay-pal link) and donate with a debit/credit card or send a check to the provided address.

Clothing donators- Individuals that donate their used (and in good condition) Clothing. Including; Warm Sweaters, Jackets, Shoes, Scarves, Beanies, Pants, Long Sleeve Tees and T-shirts (for the summer.) With the majority of homeless individuals that aren't submitted into a shelter being men we are most desperate for big sized jackets/thermals/sweaters but we also need women's clothing. We don't accept used socks/undergarments as we provide new ones with the money we receive.

Bakers- The more bakers we can get to volunteer the better! The people we help absolutely love the home baked goods we pass out and to be honest I think it's their favorite part. We need you to bake however many goodies you're committed to making and individually wrap them in a zip lock, closed bag so we can create food bags to pass out.

Wrappers- These individuals help me sort through all of the purchased items and make the toiletry bags, baked goods bags and organize the clothing in bins by size, clothing type.

Drivers- We need individuals to volunteer to drive our team on December 20th. Those of you with SUV's, bigger cars it would be greatly appreciated.

Runners- These are the individuals we need to actually run the items out. We all go out together as a group but these are the individuals in charge of making sure all who need something receive something, supplies available of course.

Chaperones- Are dubbed as men that volunteer to come out with all of the runners and make sure all situations remain safe. We like to have two guys to ever girl if possible. In the 11 years I've done this with my family we've never had anything happen but we like to stay prepared and as safe as possible.

Donation Collectors- Last but certainly not Least we need people that will help spread the word and raise awareness for our cause. Either by email, printing flyers, social networking or even just helping us pick up clothing donations at peoples homes, etc.

Okay, I know that was a lot of info but each year we have new volunteers and I want to make sure everyone is well informed! Remember you can always email me with questions or concerns at: Mrscandacepierce@gmail.com or feel free to leave a comment on this post. I'll be checking it frequently.

Thank you & Happy Holidays, Candace Pierce

The 2nd Annual "Christmas Angel's Handout" an even bigger success than the last!

First off,
I just have to say how proud of our team I am. All of our little Christmas Angels raised in total: $1,436 dollars this year! That means we DOUBLED the $700 we raised the year before. Give yourself a big pat on the back ;) We also had dozens of sweaters, Jackets, Beanies, Scarves and blankets donated. We had five generous bakers donate their time and expertise and provide baked goodies for our recipeants. This year we were able to put together 40 toiletry bags (gender specific.) In them we included; Baby wipes, a large toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, deodorant, Q-tips, chapstick, brush, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, three pairs of socks, gloves a beanie, kleenex, feminine products & hair ties for the ladies and a bag of chips & a candy cane for a special treat. We were also able to purchase crates of bottled water to pass out. Thank Jesus for The Dollar Tree is all I have to say ;) With the remainder of the money, we were able to purchase umbrellas & the fan favorite: $5 Jack-in-the box gift cards. The amount of "helpers" this year was truly profound and touching. With everyone that donated, helped purchase, tithed, put together bags, helped sort clothes, baked, drove and passed out we had over 35 people help out. That's amazing! I hope each of you felt rewarded and proud of yourselves for all of the selfless effort you put into making our 2nd handout a success. Everyone we passed items out to, talked with and gave encouragement to will surly remember your kindness for years to come if not for a lifetime. For some, this is the only "Christmas" they will experience. For that one night, they are brought a little happiness, an expression of generosity and most importantly hope.

Until next year my angels, Merry Christmas. -Candace Pierce

The date has been set for 2011!

Hi Everyone,

I'm happy to announce that the date for this years "Christmas Angel's Handout" has finally been set for Tuesday, December 20th.

I know it's hard being that it's on a week night- but with holiday parties and people going out of town it's the only date available. The great news is, actually handing out the care packages takes no more than 2 hours and you can dedicate as much time as you want.

Also, I am going to need A LOT of help beforehand collecting donations, shopping for the supplies, organizing and wrapping, baking, planning our route, etc.

Positions we need filled:

-Bakers
-Wrappers
-Drivers
-Runners
-Donation Collectors
-Chaperones (Guys that are buff) J
-& a Volunteer Photographer

So please contact me via phone or email: Mrscandacepierce@gmail.com and let me know if you are interested in helping in any way. Even just $5 means a meal for someone that can't afford it... or a blanket for someone who is cold.

Thank you for your help- Candace & The Christmas Angels Team

::Christmas Angels Handout 2011::

~Happy Holidays Everyone~

It's that time of the year again, a time for giving, a time to think of those less fortunate and a time to make a difference. Our very first “Christmas Angels Handout” and it was amazing! Not only did we collect tons of donations but we had so many wonderful volunteers that helped prepare the "Goodie Bags" and help pass out. I hope this year we can make it even more of a success.

Last year we were able to raise $700 through our PayPal account in which we were able to buy $300 in Jack in the box cash (60 gift cards), 10 Blankets, $150 in supplies from The Dollar Tree, $170 in supplies at Wal-Mart, 10 Umbrellas, 10 calling cards, 3lbs of fudge, 2 dozen cupcakes & 4 dozen cookies and we collected 7 bags of warm clothing!

This year, I am going to do everything in my power to spread the word in hopes that we beat our numbers from last year.
I'm talking; sending flyers out, posting it on every social network outlet I can think of, emailing/calling, contacting local grocery stores for donations…
I may even try and get our story on the news J

So what I need all of you to do is Volunteer.

The date hasn't been set yet as I'm still trying to coordinate it with everyone- but even if you aren't able to physically pass things out with us- you can still help by; spreading the word, donating monetarily or helping to collect and organize donations.

Just like last year, we’re going to need:

-Bakers
-Wrappers
-Drivers
-Runners
-Donation Collectors
-Chaperones (Guys that are buff) J
-& a Volunteer Photographer

Please email me ASAP if you are interested in participating in any way.
The more the merrier! Mrscandacepierce@gmail.com
